The NWLSD placed on the ballot Issue 47 claiming to “Avoid an Operating Deficit” by raising property taxes an additional $7,344,295 for five years.  If this levy passes get used to it, the next campaign will urge you to vote for its continuation because, “it won’t raise your taxes”.

Technically, avoiding  a deficit is correct-for the time being. However, even if this levy passes, the district’s 2012 five year forecast shows a $14 million deficit by 2016.

All the more reason to pass the levy?   For a couple of years great, maybe, until the wolf is at the door and the board moves to cut busing, sports, etc..  It’s a little repetitive.  Moreover, is this the board’s best plan to educate our children?

Cutting busing and sports reduces their deficit marginally. The District’s greatest expense is wages and salaries.  The top 75 employees receive $8,500,000 per year. The top 100 employees earn $100,000 or more. The target for cuts is evident.

Compare the District’s claimed cuts amounting to an approximate paltry 2% over 4 years to cuts in your own household budget.  Send a message to the school board.  It’s still is a spending problem, not a revenue problem.

Vote NO on Issue 47
